Denis (Dionysius) Paraskevatos is a Melbourne master craftsman who has spent more than forty years building museum-quality replicas of historic ships, from an Egyptian papyrus boat and Athenian triremes to the Cutty Sark and HMS Victory. Each model begins with months of historical research and is made from thousands of hand-made parts.
His ships have been exhibited at Parliament House in Melbourne, Melbourne Town Hall, La Trobe University and Macleod College, and one of his triremes stands in the Embassy of Greece in Canberra. In 2002 he was awarded the Commonwealth Centenary Medal for service to the arts.
